THE WISDOM OF OZ

GITA’S OZ CONNECTION   -  FAMILY LEGACY

In The Wisdom of Oz: Reflections of a Jungian Sandplay Psychotherapist, Dr. Morena shows how and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz has become America’s most beloved fairy tale.  As a psychotherapist and great grand daughter of the author, L. Frank Baum, Dr. Morena demonstrates how Dorothy’s adventure reflects everyone’s journey home.

Dr. Morena offers a unique and personal way to explore her great grandfather’s enchanting fairy tale. She looks at The Wonderful Wizard of Oz as a metaphor for personal growth, spiritual transformation, and the emergence of the feminine. With examples from her own life and the experience of her clients, she weaves her expertise as a clinical psychologist into an exploration of the hidden gems of this quintessential fairy tale. Magically, her great grandfather’s inspiring tale comes to life as Dr. Morena encourages Oz lovers to explore the twists and turns of their own Yellow Brick Roads.

The refreshing aspect of this book is that unlike too many of today’s New Age tomes of the self-help type, it doesn’t try to present you with any sort of a “System” full of complex exercises to lead you on to self-discovery.  There are some simple exercises offered at the end, but they’re presented in a brief, almost “afterthought” way that’s clearly meant to serve just as a stimulus to your own ideas.  There is also included a good bibliography, a complex index and some contact listings; amenities also found wanting in this genre.

On the whole, if you’re looking for a deeper, more informative view of America’s one perfect fairy tale, not obscured by any metaphysical fuzziness, you can’t do better than to start here.  Great-grandfather Baum would have been proud.William T. Masonis, Independent Publisher
